Keep in mind no single action pistol can be fired in double action mode. Some double action guns can be fired in single action mode to lighten the trigger pull. In a double action, or DA, pulling the trigger cocks the hammer and then releases it. The trigger will do nothing if the hammer is not in the cocked position. Pulling the trigger causes the hammer to release and strike the cartridge’s primer, thus firing. In a single action only, or SAO, the hammer must be manually cocked. The action of a revolver is determined by the number of steps that trigger must make it to fire the bullet.
